Kevin Durant surpasses Tim Duncan in NBA all-time scoring list
Kevin Durant is having a season to remember and is continuing to pile up the rank of legends in NBA history. In his latest achievement, the Brooklyn Nets’ forward surpassed NBA hall of famer Tim Duncan to take the 15th spot in the all-time scoring list of the league. He had managed 32 points in the Nets’ victory over Cleveland and surpassed Duncan’s tally of 26,496.
Next up in the radar for Durant is Dominique Wilkins, who is stationed in the 14th position with 26,668 points. This season the Nets star has surpassed NBA hall fo famers Alex English, Vince Carter, Kevin Garnett, John Havlicek, Paul Pierce and now Duncan, an accomplishment that is yet to sink in for the 34-year-old.
Durant said after his team’s victory against Cleveland that it is special to be able to surpass such big names and also celebrate these accomplishments with his teammates. With Monday’s 125-117 win, they are third in the Eastern Conference and are on the march.
“Most definitely. You want to just show up every day, but at some point you got to celebrate some small wins, just like a win [over the Cavaliers]. It’s cool to celebrate that with your team,” Durant said.
“So my career, to be able to you know pass an all-time great legend, somebody who shifted and changed the game is it’s something that I’ll call my folks about tonight and talk over and just reminisce on how we got here. So it’s pretty cool to do stuff like that and I want to celebrate those small things, but you know, keep pressing forward. I know I got more to do,” Durant added.
Durant registered his season-high fourth 3-pointer, taking the tally to 1,828 in his career. He moved past the LA Lakers legend Kobe Bryant (1,827) into 21st place on the all-time list, behind Chauncey Billups (1,830).
The Nets are continuing their stupendous run of form and now have won nine games in a row. This is their best run in the NBA since 2005-06 and the longest active-streak of the ongoing season. Durant and Kyrie Irving have scored over 30 points in the same game five times this season, tying Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown for the most in the league.
