Wolverhampton Wanderers have conducted business outside the transfer window with the urgent signing of Spain striker Diego Costa as a free agent. The Premier League club took to social media to officially announce the deal.
In the video posted by Wolves, Costa can be seen holding the chain to a pack of wolves. The ‘cold’ nature of the post struck a chord among football fans who found it impressive and are excited about witnessing the former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid striker in action in England once again.
The signing of the 33-year-old became a necessity for Wolves who recently had to deal with the unfortunate news of Austrian striker Sasa Kalajdzic suffering a serious injury that will keep him on the sidelines for a lengthy period. Signed for 18 million euros this summer, this is far from the ideal start at the Molineux that Kalajdzic would’ve envisioned as he sustained a knee injury ligament on his debut.
Kalajdzic’s strike partner Mexican Raul Jimenez has also been ruled out with a groin injury, leaving a massive void at the centre of the frontline for Wolverhampton Wanderers.
They will hope that Costa who already has plenty of Premier League experience on his CV will fill the hole. Having left Atletico Mineiro in Brazil in January, he has been a free agent for several months. However, he cleared a medical last week he has signed a one-year deal with Wolves, subject to international clearance.

“A serial winner with a wealth of experience at the highest level, Diego will bring something unique to our dressing room and on the pitch, and we look forward to his impact at Molineux and Compton this season.”
Having scored just three goals in their six league matches so far, Wolves hold the record of the worst scoring side among the 20 teams in the English top flight. Costa has obviously, previously represented Chelsea in the Premier League between 2014 and 2017.
He had scored 59 goals in all competitions for the Blues and also won two Premier League titles with the club from London. Diego Costa had finished as the top-scorer for Chelsea in each of the three seasons he had spent at the Stamford Bridge before returning back to Atletico Madrid after a fallout with then-Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.
