Former Bellator MMA champion AJ McKee is keen on luring boxing legend Floyd Mayweather into a lucrative all-American clash. McKee has mentioned that he continues to be hungry for a fight with Mayweather and will go to great lengths to make it happen.

A potential battle with Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather was on his mind after his unanimous decision victory over Roberto de Souza in Japan on December 31.

“I’m a dog, man. And I want to fight Floyd, still,” he told Insider Shortly. “I’ve spoken to him a few times, and I told him I want to fight him. I don’t know if he took it personally, but it’s just, like, I’m the best of my sport, you’re the best of yours.”

The biggest obstacle standing in the way of the MMA champion is the fact that it has been over five years since Mayweather retired from professional boxing. 

He faced another MMA top star Conor McGregor in the 10th round of a landmark crossover boxing rules bout that pitted two of the greatest box office sensations against one another and had the last laugh in the contest by beating McGregor.

Although he has stayed retired from pro boxing, Mayweather has actually taken part in exhibition matches around the world including Japan, Miami, and Dubai.

 The 45-year-old has been in five exhibition bouts since 2018, including against prominent internet personalities Logan Paul and KSI, and has three victories to his name while still being undefeated.

He will also face English retired MMA star, TV personality and pro boxer Aaron Chalmers in another exhibition match in February. The contest will be held at the famous O2 Arena in London.

McKee also says that he wouldn’t mind doing an exhibition bout with Mayweather since the latter has given up fighting professionally where he possesses a mind-blowing 50-0 record and has never been defeated.

“We could do an exhibition,” McKee told Insider. “He’s done fighting, so I wouldn’t mind.”

McKee continued: “I’ve always called myself the Floyd Mayweather of MMA, and it would just be cool to share that moment with him.”

However, before he can finally make his dreams come true with a potential bout against Money Mayweather, McKee will have to get through a Bellator gauntlet, as the Los Angeles-based promotion has organized an eight-man lightweight competition.

Champion Usman Nurmagomedov will be putting his title on the line in a bracket that will also include atricky Pitbull, Benson Henderson, and Sidney Outlaw besides McKee.
