Barcelona Academy Star Striker has Xavi’s attention
Barcelona’s Academy is famous for producing many world-class talents and it looks like it is about to gift the world another future star in Angel Alarcon.
The 18-year-old forward is shining with the U19 team right now and is one of the brightest talents in the La Masia set up. So, there’s no surprise in the fact that he has Barcelona first team’s manager Xavi Hernandez’s attention now, and he could soon look to promote him to the senior team.
According to a report from Relevo, Alarcon could find himself playing for the senior Barcelona team soon. Xavi sees huge potential in the youngster and could be seen leading Barcelona’s attack soon. In fact, Alarcon was moved from his role as a left winger to the central striker position on Xavi’s request.
Alarcon trained with Barcelona’s first team in the first week after the World Cup and he has impressed everyone with his pace, finishing and skill while playing for the U19 team. He scored three goals and made as many assists in the UEFA Youth League Group Stage. Alarcon has shown excellent positional awareness and clinical finishing ability in these matches.
It has been learnt that his contract runs out at the end of the season but discussions are already on to extend his contract and create a pathway to the first team in the near future.
Barcelona’s situation with their current forwards is not quite well as Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres are serving suspension and there is no clarity over the future of Memphis Depay with the club. So, there is a clear room for Alarcon to link up with the team this month and start getting accustomed to the environment. The 18-year-old could also be called up in Barcelona’s squad for the Spanish Cup in Saudi Arabia, such is the impact he has created with his performances.
