Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra Believes LIV Golf is Best Option for Young Golfers
Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra, a young professional golfer who recently joined the LIV Golf circuit, believes that it is now the best option for upcoming youngsters in professional golf. According to him, LIV Golf is the ‘best spot’ for college golfers. In his senior year at Oklahoma State University, Chacarra joined the Saudi-backed circuit, which proved to be a fruitful switch for the Spaniard.
Chacarra had reached as high as World No. 2 in amateur golf rankings in his amateur career. In his fifth start at the PIF Sponsored Tour, Chacarra managed to win the LIV Golf Bangkok, becoming the youngest individual winner on the new Tour and bagging $4 million.
During the pre-event press conference of the LIV Golf Tulsa, the 23-year-old golfer shared his views on the breakaway circuit and its comparison with PGA Tour. “The PGA Tour University are doing a lot of change because the No. 1 guy that’s in the ranking left, so they obviously don’t want that to happen. It’s going to be hard to get the top-ranking players. There’s always an option,” he said.
Chacarra mentioned that LIV Golf is the best spot to go after college, not just because of money, but because they get to play against some of the best players in the world and want to beat them. He added that players learn a lot from each other in the LIV format, which is not the case on the PGA Tour.
“For me and for us, the PGA Tour or other tours, we were never members there or we never made money there or anything, so they can’t ban you or whatever they’re saying. I don’t know what’s the situation; I’m kind of tired of all of that,” he said. Chacarra feels that players are just normal golfers who want to play golf and defeat each other, and he knows a lot of people try harder in LIV Golf than they did on the PGA Tour. Chacarra never played professional golf individually, and even before joining the Saudi-backed circuit, he was part of the Oklahoma State University Team. He finds the team format of LIV quite fun and loves having teammates, friends, and someone to support. Chacarra is a member of Fireballs GC, which is captained by Sergio Garcia, and Abraham Ancer and Carlos Ortiz are the other two members. Fireballs GC secured one win this year at the Tucson event. Chacarra feels that LIV Golf is fun for people, and in Europe, Spanish people like it more than the PGA Tour.
