Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Brooklyn Nets by a score of 134-124 in one of the most dramatic games of the season. However, more than the game, the headline-dominating stuff came from four players from both sides who combined to score 150 points between each other, creating NBA history.
Desmond Bane and Ja Morant were at the top of their game for the Grizzles, who scored a stunning 38 points each for the side, taking the duo’s tally to 76 in the match. They were, as it turned out, not the only two players to make their mark with stunning individual performances. Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant chipped in with 37 points each for the Nets.
It is the first time in NBA history that a non-overtime game witnessed four players across both teams scoring more than 35 points each. Their combined tally of 150 points is also a tournament record now.
Morant made 15 points in the opening quarter and 23 at halftime whilst Bane’s 19-point spree in the third quarter resulted in a 17-point Grizzlies lead. Then, in the fourth, he added 13 points to put the game away.
Interestingly, it is the Grizzlies duo who are the more underrated when compared to Irving and Durant. Durant is already one of the most celebrated athletes across the world and made it to the NBA All-Star 12 times in his illustrious career, whilst Irving made it to the All-Star seven times.
On the other hand, Morant only has one appearance in the All-Star whilst Bane is yet to make it. During the fixture against the Nets, the duo made seven assists each as well. Morant was also on fire with his three-pointer spree, making it eight times out of 11 attempts. He has been lethal with his three-pointers in the early bits of this season, something the opponents will be wary of going forward.
The Grizzlies, who are fourth in the Western Conference currently, will be in action against the Sacramento Kings in a Wednesday night clash at the Golden 1 Center. They’ve lost one game in the opening four contests and are keen on maintaining the top positions in the league.
