In a significant move ahead of the 2023/24 Europa League season, Liverpool Football Club, under the helm of Jurgen Klopp, has unveiled their 23-man senior squad. This announcement comes as the Reds find themselves outside the Champions League competition for the first time since 2016.

However, a glimmer of hope remains for Adrian, as a UEFA loophole may permit his inclusion in the event of a long-term injury to Alisson or Caoimhin Kelleher.

The recent deadline has passed for clubs to furnish their squad list to UEFA, and it was revealed that only a maximum of 25 players are permitted on the ‘A list.’ Furthermore, at least eight of these spots must be allocated to ‘locally trained’ players, while only a maximum of four can be ‘association trained.’ 

Teams can also enlist an unlimited number of players on their ‘B list,’ provided they were born on or after January 1, 2002, and have spent at least two years at the club.

This complex set of regulations presented a challenging decision for Jurgen Klopp, who was compelled to trim his squad following the acquisition of Ryan Gravenberch.

Among those securing their spots on the coveted ‘A list’ are Vitezslav Jaros and Bobby Clark. The former qualifies as a club-trained player, whereas the latter falls under the ‘association trained’ category.

Surprisingly, beyond the omission of Adrian, Liverpool’s squad for the upcoming double-headers against LASK, Union SG, and Toulouse holds no surprises.

The Reds find themselves in Group E for this year’s Europa League campaign, kicking off with an away clash against LASK on September 21. Jurgen Klopp’s fervent hope is to guide his team to their fifth European final, with the dream of replicating their 2016 success in Basel.
